Kusnap Africa Limited

Kusnap is an eCommerce platform designed to make buying and selling across Africa simple, secure, and accessible. I designed the user experience for over Kusnap is an eCommerce platform created to make buying and selling across Africa simple, secure, and accessible. I designed the user experience for over 35,000 active users, focusing on features that boost trust and usability. A key part of this work was developing the User Verification System, which was split into two parts: verification for buyers and sellers, and verification for stores owned by businesses. This approach addressed increasing concerns about fraud and credibility while keeping Kusnap’s goal of fast, seamless onboarding.

Kusnap User Verification

Trust is critical in online marketplaces, especially in regions where fraud and counterfeit activity can discourage digital commerce. To address this, I designed the Kusnap User Verification System.

A feature that helps authenticate buyers and sellers through identity checks and verification badges. This feature reduced fraudulent activity by over 50% leading to safer transactions and stronger community trust within the Kusnap platform.

PAIN POINTS

When Kusnap first launched, it focused on making it fast and seamless for anyone to capture and list products without the friction of verification. This approach worked initially as listings grew quickly and sellers enjoyed the ease of getting started. But soon, trust became a major challenge, with tons of calls from buyers and sellers filing fraud reports.

To understand how to solve this challenge better, I spoke with users. Below are some insights.

Problem Statement

The lack of a verification system made it easy for anyone to sign up and start selling, which supported Kusnap’s growth at first. However, it also led to growing trust issues as fraud reports increased. The challenge was clear: improve trust and safety without losing the simplicity and speed that sellers valued.


Goal

To design a user verification system that strengthens trust across the marketplace while keeping the onboarding process simple and frictionless.


Approach

My design approach was guided by three principles. The process had to be simple, making verification quick and easy for sellers. It had to be visible, giving buyers clear trust signals like badges. And it had to be scalable, able to grow with Kusnap’s expanding user base. These principles ensured the system built trust while keeping the experience seamless.

These final designs bring the verification flow to life, showing a simple process for phone number verification via OTP and identity verification using a government-issued ID. The goal was to make each step intuitive and reassuring, ensuring users feel secure without adding unnecessary friction.
